To support EUMETSAT’s Data Services and Archive Operations facility we are looking for new colleagues to join our team to help operate the multi-mission online Data Services and the Archive, in Darmstadt, Germany.Preferably, you shall have experience in providing support in the field of computing systems operations, computing systems anomaly analysis & support, and software engineering.Background:EUMETSAT’s online Data Services provide on-demand access to satellite data and meteorological products via the user portal. This portal offers user registration, access to the central products catalogue, subscriptions, data services, and a knowledge base for news and events.The EUMETSAT Archive preserves over 40 years of data from Meteosat, Metop, Jason, Copernicus Sentinel, and NOAA satellites, including metadata from Satellite Application Facilities (SAFs). It will transition to a Long-Term Archive (LTA) in the near future, adding advanced data management and high-performance data repatriation capabilities to the Data Services.The Data Services and Archive Operations team is in the User Support and Climate Services Division of the Operations and Services to Users (OPS) Department at EUMETSAT.
The position will include tasks such as: Perform routine monitoring and reporting, including support for configuring monitoring and reporting tools.Execute tasks as outlined in the Data Centre operations procedures and assist in documenting these operational tasks.Analyse unexpected system events to identify anomalies, report issues to the maintenance teams, and support anomaly resolution.Monitor and administer the Operations Validation System (OVS), including developing automated tests for validating new releases of the data services and archive software.Perform the validation of software releases to produce a test report supporting the formal acceptance of the delivery.Support specification of data services and archive software enhancements.Support the configuration of monitoring tools and the specification of their enhancements.Support the implementation of tools to support operations and the EUMETSAT users.Gather system and software metrics for the generation Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports.Assist in resolving user inquiries received through the EUMETSAT user service help desk.Provide engineering support for interfacing cooperating services and systems.Additionally:Provision of 1st Line Support to all Data Services and ArchiveExecution of Routine Operational TasksContribute to the Configuration of tools used for OperationsConduct the, validation of new versions of the Data Services and Archive software / systemsPreparation of Services’ Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Development of utilities and tools to support operations and the usersProvision of technical support to the evolution of the Data Services and ArchiveContribute to the Integration, Verification and Validation (IV&V) of service developments by using the Operations Validation System (OVS)Contribute to the user preparation of service evolutionsKey Qualifications General Work AspectsA university degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering / science discipline.Using English effectively in verbal and written communicationStrong team working and collaboration attitudeVery good analytical skills.Experience in working in the Unix / Linux OS as a user.Know-how in scripting (especially Python, Shell)Experience in collaborations tools such as Jira and ConfluenceExperience in MS Office – as a minimum MS Outlook and WordExperience in writing operations procedures and technical documentation for system enhancements Mandatory knowledge, experience and skills required Software Development & ToolsExperience in Java and SQLExperience in VMs & Docker ContainersExperience as a user of REST APIs.Practical Experience in Programming using API'sWorking with EO data, metadata, large sizes and formats (NetCDF, GEOTIFF)Experience in using source code control systems such as Git and Continuous Integration pipelines (e.g. through Gitlab)Experience in working in a user support roleExperience in software testing automation e.g. using tools like Playwright, JMeter, Junit, etc. Specialised Skills and ToolsExperience in applying the software development life cycle for systems developmentExperience in writing test plans, test cases and conducting these testsExperience about cloud-native applicationsExperience in Microservices (Kubernetes, etc.)Experience in XML/XSD/XLTExperience in using Harbor and SonarQubeBasic understanding of statistics generation and the use of analytical tools.Additionally for OperationsExperience in SW testing and validationExperience working in an operations environment supporting the analysis and resolution of system anomalies Working LocationThis is a full-time position, to be located both on-site at EUMETSAT Headquarters and off-site at the Terma´s office, in Darmstadt, Germany with an expected start date as soon as possible.What can Terma offerAt Terma, we consider skilled employees, enthusiasm and job satisfaction as the very foundation of our success and as a prerequisite for the development of the “best-in-class” solutions that Terma provides.
