What it means
The advance notice required before a contract can end, whether by resignation or dismissal. After the Probezeit it lengthens with tenure — often one to three months, and up to six for senior roles.
In practice
A three-month Kündigungsfrist means telling a new employer your actual start date can slip well past when you'd like.
