What it means
An employment contract with a set end date, as opposed to an unbefristet (permanent) one. Fixed-term contracts are common for first roles and can usually be renewed a limited number of times.
In practice
Ask directly whether a role is a Befristung or unbefristet before accepting — the job ad wording doesn't always make it obvious.
